the zephyr side table
in the design studio
Bridget designed the Zephyr Side Table after an afternoon at the beach in Incline Village with her toddler, stacking stones along the shoreline. The quiet rhythm of this simple act—both meditative and playful—inspired the sculptural form of the piece.
To emphasize its silhouette, the wood elements undergo a traditional Japanese shou sugi ban charring technique to produce a rich, textural black finish while highlighting the natural grain of the wood and metal throughout. The base was developed in collaboration with a local metalsmith and crafted from cold-rolled steel, hand-rubbed in a complementary blackened finish.
A concealed ½" steel rod is welded to the base, allowing the wood forms to be stacked vertically—echoing the delicate balance of stones while maintaining structural stability for everyday use.
The rocks are individually hand-shaped from reclaimed sugar pine sourced from the historic Huffaker Ranch, established in 1859 in Reno. The tabletop features our signature brass bowtie inlay and is crafted from redwood, whose striking grain emerges through its organic, asymmetrical form.
Both sculptural and functional, the Zephyr Side Table brings a refined presence to a seating vignette, use it effortlessly beside an accent chair or sofa.
